Review of Husbands and Wives (1992) by Theocharis T — 27 Aug 2008
I dare say that this is the definitive 'unhappy relationship' movie. And yes, that is an actual subgenre--it's just that most films of the type simply aren't very good. This one is great.
Featuring a great ensemble playing believably flawed characters (Judy Davis in particular is excellent), H&W has several scenes which I would describe as perfect--like short films themselves. One of Allen's best.
