Review of Husbands and Wives (1992) by Donald W — 22 Jul 2017
#WoodyAllenRetro Podcast Project.
Another clear masterpiece from Woody's filmography - from the handheld camerawork to the reality behind the scenes execution and then of course the dissection of marriage and infidelity with both insight, humour, brashness and raw honesty... it's the superior version of what was accomplished in hannah and her sisters in our book and by god Juliette Lewis gives a great performance BEFORE her more ditzy persona roles that followed... this is a mature look at relationships and further shows woodys innovation.. and maybe even touching on themes that would soon be a bit too close to things in his real life at the time - which actually only made the movie that more relevant!
