Review of Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016) by Tor M — 07 Nov 2017
A fat kid that has been up to mischief all his life is placed at a foster home in the middle of the wild. He's in the bush, far away from civil signs. He get's into it quite fast. Aunt Bella is a nice lady, she digs him, he digs her. Uncle Hec is not as easy to know but our boy Ricky has no choice when Bella suddenly dies. Ricky is on the run but Hec is tracking him down and now they are both into deep stuff. Ricky is hunted by the child services, Hec is known as a perv to the media, disappearing with a young boy.
This is some brilliant Sumday fun. Easy, digestable, filled with laughs and silliness. Taika Waititi is behind the boards here, the man from another sweet NZ comedy "What We Do in the Shadows". It's got a vibe like "Captain Fantastic" just a lot more enjoyable and has a lot of heart but is all about the laughs. It works like a charm for me. When he runs for the first time there's a great song, using the same sample as one of my favorite tracks recently. It's killing me that I can't figure out the sample source.
8 out of 10 ninjas.
