Review of Howl (2010) by Brad G — 17 Jan 2011
Although I greatly appreciate the pseudo-documentary style over the traditional Point A to B to C Biopic, Howl's fragmented narrative of Poem/Poem Animation/Interview Session/Trial Transcript left me feeling a little more than cold.
..I just never felt fully engaged. James Franco does a fine impression. Jon Hamm does lawyery well. And David Strathairn does jerky lawyery well. But at the end of the day I think I would rather just read the poem, listen to the interviews, or watch a straight up documentary on the obscenity trial than drift through this film.
