Review of Howards End (1992) by Shanisah A — 15 Jan 2011
"an intellectually devastating allegory of Edwardian England". This sums it up fairly well. I would love to watch this again, as I had to watch in snippets, and with a complaining boyfriend during the second half.
(Warning: boyfriend may not be mature enough to sit through this). Despite some of its awkward editing, this film is still sitting with me a week later and I'm still thinking about it, and the performances of Emma Thompson and Samuel West in particular.
Two very under-appreciated actors. I was very impressed by its ability to subtly encase me in that world and leave me confused as to whether I wanted to stay there or not.
