Review of How to Lose Friends & Alienate People (2008) by Asa B — 27 Jul 2013
Sidney Young (Simon Pegg): [to his father] You thought Brad Pitt was a cave in Yorkshire.
This movie hinged completely on Simon Pegg's performance and luckily Pegg is the kind of actor that is so charismatic that he's fairly capable of doing so; but luckier still is that Pegg was paired with an equally talented partner, Kirsten Dunst, who can make her romantic pairing with Pegg seem almost plausible. The entire cast did a great job with just one exception-- Fox. God bless her she's as gorgeous as they come but he girl can't act her way out of a box and she's playing a role that I would imagine isn't much of stretch from her real-life persona and yet her performance was still unconvincing. I think it would've been better if Ms. Fox's dialogue was limited and is better to be seen than heard. The plot was fairly predictable and cliché, the characters were all the stereotypical heroes and/or villains from any numerous rom-coms but like I said, Pegg is adorable and so very likeable that I didn't really mind sitting through the mundaneness that is this film.
