Review of How Green Was My Valley (1941) by Victoria W — 13 Aug 2007
Infamous for being the film that beat Citizen Kane for Best Picture back in 1941, John Ford's How Green Was My Valley has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of: it's a beautiful, heartfelt and nostalgic little movie that earns its own place in American cinema.
A melancholic portrayal of a Welsh family in the beginning of the 20th century - nevermind the accents being a mixture of everything in the United Kingdom (a Welsh kid who has an Irish sister and Scottish friends!), it's a great movie that, while isn't better than Citizen Kane, is still not to blame for Hearst's anger and makes more than a good alternative.
