Review of House of Sand and Fog (2003) by Mandy D — 26 Mar 2010
A well made, well acted and well directed film which I can't see anyone enjoying. This is because this film is so dark and so depressing it becomes a depressing experience to watch it.
It follows Kathy, a women who looses her house her father worked so hard to leave her with to a middle eastern family with very different world views. Both sets of characters are good people at their core but have strayed so far from that core they have become the worst possible versions of themselves. As Kathy tries to get her house back she meets a local deputy who is in a similar situation. As tension betwean the 2 set of characters rise it all builds twords a tragic end that shatters everything around them.
Overall I have to give this 3 stars because of how good the acting and directing was but warn you that this is a dark film that shows graphic depictions of the evil in all of us and not much of the good.
