Review of House of 1000 Corpses (2003) by Senor C — 01 Oct 2010
This is one movie that I used to think was worthless but have grown more fond of over the years. Zombie serves up a vile homage to 70s exploitation/horror but in truth it's nothing more then a visualization of one of his albums (snips of 30s horror films & all.
.he wasn't original called White Zombie for nothing). A slew of great characters most of all Sid Haig as Captain Spaulding. You must check out his earlier stuff like The Big Bird Cage, Coffy & Spider Baby.
His 70s work is a riot. Some great visuals (a little too much solarization) but I don't feel the movie sustains for the 3rd act except for the appearance of Dr Satan. This is a good start though but it would be near to perfected in the Devil's Rejects.
