Review of Hour of the Wolf (1968) by Freddy F — 29 Oct 2008
Troubled artist Johan is haunted by past memories, and those demons are contagious, as Johan's wife, Alma, learns when she begins to experience the same delusions. A local aristocrat and his supernatural clan could be behind the nightmares in this brooding, surreal Gothic tale from Swedish master Ingmar Bergman.
This film is totally off the wall and weird, and I don't really get it. First of all I the film starts as though it's going to be and interesting story of a couple living in a remote countryside cottage. But then the husband Johan keeps experiencing different weird things, and it all ends in a sort of nightmare experience. This is not an easy watch and I found, like the film, my mind wandering, and the whole thing doesn't make any sense. If you wanna get a headache watch this film, if not leave it well alone.
