Review of Hot Shots! Part Deux (1993) by Jared F — 13 Sep 2009
Jim abrahams does it again. and this time its 10 times better than the first. charlie sheen once again appears as topper, this time playing a sort of "rambo" part instead of characters in top gun.
in fact, this movie is more of a parody of the action genre in general with parodies of classic action movies like rambo first blood part 2, commando, and various war movies, also referencing other classics such as platoon, total recall, robocop, karate kid, and even star wars and wizard of oz.
the comedy in this is so unexpected and random that there are rarely any parts where I wasn't cracking up hysterically. lloyd bridges returns as benson, now the president of the USA, still a bumbling idiot, but nevertheless hilarious.
other various characters return from the first as well, such as valeria golino and ryan stiles, and newcomers richard crenna (playing a parody of his own character in the rambo films) and the beautiful brenda bakke, playing another perpetual love interest for topper.
once again, I highly recommend this, especially since its even better than the original.
