Review of Horsemen (2009) by Casey P — 01 Nov 2009
This is one of those movies I happened to just grab off of the shelf because I'd already seen everything I'd wanted to see at the video store. Luckily, it turned out to be a positive experience. There aren't a lot of horror/thriller films these days that aren't crammed full of gore. This is a throwback to a time when telling the viewer was just as bad a showing him/her. It is very reminiscent of "SE7EN" and even "Silence of the Lambs.".
The ending could've been treaked with a bit more, I'd say. Unfortunately, I had already guessed at it half-way though, but I think it might have been unavoidable in this case.
To sum up: gross without being gory; psychological without being confusing; religiously creepy without being religious and Dennis Quaid didn't embarass himself. I'd say all this equals success.
Finally, I'd like to give props to Clifton Collins, Jr. who I have now found to be wonderfully interesting in both this film as well as "Sunshine Cleaning." It's too bad they couldn't come up with a better name for your character than 'Stingray.' WTF?
