Review of #Horror (2015) by Emily S — 12 Aug 2016
Focused on the problem instead of the performance, #Horror delivers a subject matter that has come to light in recent years: cyber bullying-but only in the extreme. While there are cases of extreme bullying, the story focuses on the interaction of the group of young teenage girls who do nothing but tear at each other and pretend to be friends, while calling one another every name from bitch, liar, whore, to fat pig and beyond--posting it all online for likes, using each other as a mechanism for social fulfillment and popularity. They show the worst kind of false friends who abuse each other with words and emotions.
The flashy colors and avatars used by the online platform by the girls creates a feeling of having a seizure, which is quite a distraction.
The film also fails at creating a believable story, that one of them murders the rest only for immortality. The acting isn't particularly strong except for Timothy Hutton who is a seasoned actor.
Watch this for the story, the subject of cyber bullying, but don't expect to walk away satisfied or impressed with outcomes or visual effects.
