Review of Honeymoon (2014) by Carlos M — 14 Jul 2016
A film that could easily fall into the 'inspite of it's low budget' bin, i.e. it could well become more known for it's low budget that it's quality (SAW, Blair Witch). Thankfully, you forget it takes place almost entirely in a cabin very early. I almost had to stop watching this movie because I sustained my nervousness at such a high level for so long. I'm very glad I continued because the climax of this film does put feet wrong but infrequently enough and mildly enough to keep it at the level of 'quite extraordinary'.
Another trap this movie could fall into is the 'cabin in the woods' movies, luckily by avoiding other slasher movie cliches it prevents the slide into mere schlock. The acting is superb for c-list stars, and the practical effects belie it's modest budget. Don't go too far into it's genres because that becomes a spoiler somewhat. It's imaginative, fun, tense, terrifying, styling, shocker. It puts feet wrong don't get me wrong, it's only 85 minutes long and it still occasionally drags and the writing isn't always seamless, but it's more than the sum of it's parts and worth a watch.
