Review of Holy Rollers (2010) by Dervilla O — 23 May 2011
The subject of "Holy Rollersâ?, Brooklyn Hasidic Jews, working as drug runners on the NY/Amsterdam axis in the late â~90â(TM)s also offers an intriguing portrait of an insular community & is based on a true-life saga.
Eisenberg totally nails the part of an anxious, unworldly, nerdy but highly intelligent young man who is seduced from the sheltered Eden of his religious neighbourhood for the neon Sodom of decadent Amsterdam by Bartha, who was all to eager to cast aside his faith for the seductive trappings of sex, drugs and money.
Very enjoyable movie!
