Review of Margot at the Wedding (2007) by Dervilla O — 04 Mar 2010
Margot at the wedding is not a movie for everyone, itâ??s a dark comedy, in which sometimes the comedy is overshadowed by the drama. A very well directed film with a complex screenplay which amaze some people but doesnâ??t surprise others, bringing up some laughs out of the watchers, especially by Malcolm which is the funniest character of the movie, a completely jerk which represents the best way , the â??between the linesâ?? message of the movie; â??Not to judge only by the outsideâ??, unfortunally the character is played by a miscast Jack Black who looks like an amateur between two of the best performances of the year, his main problem is that he tries to much to be funny and it makes contrasts with the naturally and pureness the main actress bring with their performances, maybe Malcolm is not an easy character to play, but if we talk about demanding and complex characters the one who comes up to my mind is Margot, the trickiest character to play, which no other could have performanced so amazingly than Ms Kidman, who shows that she has many sides as an actress, and here she uses the one that had been hidden since â??To die Forâ??, but thereâ??s even more, in this movie Kidman gets to a new level of frustration, bitcheness, and â??Im falling apart, but Im OK feelingâ?? ,since the beginning of the movie until the end you can get to feel what Margot feels just by looking at her eyes, and is all thanks to the perfect performance of Kidman along with her co-star Jennifer Jason Leigh whose performance is so brilliant and pure to the level that makes you like Pauline so easily, Leighâ??s character is the easiest and the safest to play and the one with the showy scenes .
. A very nice movie.
