Review of Holy Motors (2012) by David G — 03 Dec 2012
Utterly mesmerizing, sublimely original, remarkably engrossing, and wonderfully bizarre. I came into this movie expecting to be confused, and I certainly was. But I was also deeply moved and entirely in awe of the scope, the ambition, and the sheer uniqueness of this film.
This film comes off as an obituary to cinema, at least in a traditional sense, but it is an obituary wrapped in a bizarre love letter. There are few to whom I would recommend this movie, but that is what makes it so great.
An acquired taste, and a must-see for any self-proclaimed cinephile, if only to have an opinion and to earn the freedom to self-glorifyingly pat yourself on the back. So sit back, prepare to be confused, and allow the ambitious singularity to wash over you.
