Review of Holy Motors (2012) by David E — 16 Aug 2014
From acclaimed director Leos Carax, comes the highly praised metafilm Holy Motors. This film details a day in the life of Monsieur Oscar, who goes about his day completing 'assignments' at his various appointments.
Through the day we see as he adopts the roles of a very wealthy man, a beggar, an assassin, a sewer-dwelling beast and many others. From beginning to end Holy Motors emits both a love and a critique of films.
Although film does begin to slow down midway, it is very engaging (especially due to Denis Lavants' amazing preformance) and visually gorgeous as it spans its various genres. Holy Motors is a must see for cinephiles and for those looking for a truly original film.
