Review of Holy Motors (2012) by Dan H — 10 Jan 2013

It's a beautiful film to look at, but it's just about impossible to make sense of. Is it a commentary on our modern world and the direction we are heading? Is it a commentary on the art of the actor and how living your life pretending to be others leaves you isolated, alone and robbed of yourself and who you are? Is it a commentary on film today, how the audience affects film, and where film is headed? Does it take place in a weird apocalyptic future? Is it all of the above? Either way, film and reality combine and mesh seamlessly in Holy Motors, and it's a damn near entrancing thing to watch.

Just don't expect to understand what is really going on. I really liked it, though it did frustrate me quite a bit at times.
