Review of Holy Motors (2012) by Iowa B — 13 Jan 2013
It may be useless trying to find meaning in this surreal bit of film madness, but I guarantee you won't be bored. You will be moved, amused, horrified, confounded, disgusted, inspired and perplexed.
..but never bored. This is unpredictable and bizarre filmmaking from Carax (whose previous contribution to the anthology 'Tokyo!' was the highlight) that, if it has a meaning, has eluded me. That didn't stop me from losing myself in the experience though.
Narrative and character have no place here. It is a feast for eyes and ears though, and the performance by the lead (who must actually play over a dozen different roles) is pretty astounding.
