Review of Hollywoodland (2006) by Aaron J — 30 Mar 2010
Affleck channels the 50s charm and anguish of TVs Superman to perfection, mirrored by Brody's PI struggling to find his own identity as a man and a father whilst investigating the Man of Steel's death.
The three alternative explanations are well thought-out, yet the suspense never builds and the big reveal never occurs. The true-story nature of the subject matter makes this difficult to achieve, but the performances and camera-work adequately paper-over these cracks.
Stylish.
