Review of Higher Learning (1995) by Robert C — 05 Jan 2008
I thought this movie would be so promising but I was wrong. After the first 30 minutes, I was thinking Fishburne would play this awesome inspiring character, but he was dead. The only notable character in this was Omar Epps, he was awesome.
Ice Cube too I guess. The first 30 minutes gave me the impression, it was leading to something awesome, then for the next 40 minutes or so, it was just dull uninspiring content. Bit of romance, chit chat.
Then the action began, nothing new, but it was shocking to see the portrail of the african americans. Over the top? to a degree, but it still happens today, I'm not incognizant to the issues today facing race.
Overall I thought the movie drifted off, and never really inspired me beyond a few fleeting moments. I couldn't help but laugh my guts out at Tyra Banks horrible horrible acting when she died, gawd that was horrible.
