Review of Higher Learning (1995) by Chris M — 16 Apr 2010
Needs more Jennifer Connelly. I couldn't believe how little she was in this. Too many characters to juggle equally, I suppose, and Epps, Rapaport, and Fishburne certainly do their parts, at least.
This is a decent film, but it definitely has its problems. I can't help but feel like we've seen these issues handled in similar, but better, ways many times before, including by Singleton himself. Everything is a little too expected and by-the-numbers.
Worth a look, to be sure, but it's no Boyz N the Hood.
