Review of High Sierra (1941) by Richard C — 01 Apr 2013
It is clear where Jean-Luc Godard got the inspiration for A Bout de Souffle upon watching this film, and this very entertaining crime drama that effectively kick-started Bogart's career as the definitive hard-boiled leading man is one that succeeds thanks to its (at the time) original and energetic method of exploring how there is no escape from the world of crime once you are in it.
A typical 1940s crime drama that doesn't feel outdated and practically shows today's generation of crime thriller filmmakers how it should be done.
