Review of High Sierra (1941) by Andy A — 05 Apr 2010
I had to read this screenplay for screenwriting class and then we got to view the movie in class. It is a pretty good crime caper. Bogart plays a rough ex-con with a heart of gold. The dialougue is classic "olde-tyme-gangster" speak. "I atta punch you in the nose" or "I cooled him off".
It was filmed in 1941 so I will forgive the racist depiction of Algernon. Reading the screenplay I couldn't wait for the next time the dog, Pard, would show up in the story. Pard plays a lesser role in the film, but still a cute dog with a story line for himself. If you have Netflix and like old black and white "talkies" this one's for you. You will be talking like the characters after viewing it.
