Review of High-Rise (2015) by Elisabeth M — 27 May 2016
This looks and feels like a Ben Wheatley film, this would be his glossiest and most expensive film to date, but the insanity, violence and bleak, black humour is under the sheen. Dr. Laing has just moved into a luxurious new building, he is among the upper class of the structure and he thinks it's all grand and fun loving but when the power keeps cutting and things like the rubbish chute constantly getting blocked, the facade crumbles and an uprising starts at the bottom where the lower and middle classes reside.
This film is well shot, well acted but the script and story at times is uneven and things happen without making much sense. Many things happen off screen and you are to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
I really enjoy Ben Wheatley's film and will continue to enjoy his original style of film making.
