Review of High Plains Drifter (1973) by Wesley T — 07 Jun 2007
Fantastic piece - What happens when a town is cursed to hell? A small town supporting a local mining firm is living in fear of their pathetic little lives, and for good reason! A couple of hired gunmen, hired to protect them, got a taste for powermongering, and began a reign of terror over the previously innocent townsfolk. When a man is brutally bullwhipped to death in the street while the whole town watches, he curses them all to hell.
It is after this has happened that the 'Stranger' appears, tough, no-nonsense, and life looks like it will take a turn for the better for the town if they can only enlist him to protect them from the rampaging gunfighters, just released from prison.
However, nothing is what it seems with this stranger......
One of my most favourite Clint movies, a fantastic period western! Great gritty one-liners and a picturesque cross-section of life in the lawless west. Directed by Clint Eastwood. (Tough Hombre).
