Review of High Anxiety (1977) by David Z — 19 Apr 2008
I love me some Mel and Madeline. Mel's philosophy here is "The more jokes you sling at em, the better your chances of getting a laugh" and he's right. Every line is a set up and punch line and most every one of them works.
An ode to Hitchcock, the all-star cast gives their all to scenes that continue to top each other. Not as narratively sound as Producers or Young Frankenstein, but still a consistently great movie. The airport security, the Werewolf scene, the insanity of Madeline Kahn's performance.
..I have to echo what the NY Times said about the stage production of The Producers: How do you pick a blaze out of a bonfire?
