Review of High Anxiety (1977) by Daniel R — 03 Apr 2010
First let me say that I am a huge Mel Brooks fan. But I do not think this is one of his best films. What makes a truly great Mel Brooks movie is politically incorrect humor, and this movie doesn't really have any.
But what is good is all of the Hitchcock homages and parodies. There are great gags on Psycho, The Birds, Vertigo, and North By Northwest. While the movie has its moments, it is just not consistently funny as movies like Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, and The Producers, which is the creme de la creme of Mel Brooks films.
