Review of Hideous Kinky (1999) by Chad R — 18 Feb 2009
Kate Winslet's characters go places that most movie characters and producers don't. In Hideous Kinky, her character is a fascinating melange of gray shades - a drifty, unfocused mother who seems to have an unconscionable neglect for her husband and children, and then again, a sincere searcher of ecstatic truths that somehow returns to her senses and comes through her experience with two feet on the ground, but not by renouncing the passion and motives of her quest.
Powerful, spiritual desires mix with mundane realities of human life. Great performances by the actors playing her children.
