This interesting footnote in history (and the historicity is dubious at best)didn't make for the grand, sweeping epic it could have been. The movie is only watchable because of Viggo Mortensen's grim charm.
It has great cinematography and an appealing supporting cast, but there's just not enough meat on this horses' bones.
