Review of Hesher (2010) by Cory T — 30 Jul 2011
Truly Joseph Gordon-Levitt is one of the most versatile actors of his generation, but even his destructively anarchic performance as Hesher can't stave off the generic ingredients of every low-budget film in the market.
Cue the assortment of oddballs who commiserate for a dysfunctional family. Cue the grandmother stoner comedy. Cue the overwrought flashback to the family in bliss before a life-altering car collision.
Hesher would've been more effectively unhinged as an imaginary friend to T.J. instead of a crass loner who materializes at will and literally (and figuratively) "burns bridges".
