Review of Hesher (2010) by Justin O — 28 Apr 2013
If you experienced the late 80's and knew the metalhead stoners who were the wild hooligans of their generation you will appreciate how accurate and well levitt plays this role. I knew and hung out with guys exactly like this character.
I can't recall a portrayal done more real and honest than this. I can't draw any comparison to this movie.... and that's a good thing. It's a true black comedy indie film. The only way I could see someone not liking this film would be people that have never known someone like Levitt's character hence not being able to see nor appreciate how well he has acted in the role.
They may see the movie as far fetched, unrealistic, and maybe exaggerated for being so foreign to anyone they've known. To me though, it brought me back to that time and was a pleasant and funny reminder of the guys I knew and thought were bad asses when I was a kid.
This movie, specifically Levitt's character, should be used as a historical reference to define and explain what and who a " Metalhead " was in the late 80's.
