Review of Hesher (2010) by Sinem S — 28 Aug 2011
Joseph Gordon Levitt is so great an actor that even if he was cast as a 10-year-old girl scout, he would get a freaking Oscar for his performance. And this movie here is no exception - the role of the hesher is very becoming (yes, "hesher" is an actual noun, not just Gordon-Levitt's name in the movie).
The movie itself is nothing extraordinary- it's not very original, but it's still good. I loved the characters, and the character development was exceptional. The music is of course a central theme in this movie (and the "lifestyle" that goes with it) so the soundtrack was interesting to say the least. I personally think that even though there's nothing particularly new in the story of this movie, the characters are what make it worth watching. Hesher's speech at the funeral was hilarious and heart-breaking at the same time and that's not easy to accomplish. I also found myself tearing up every time T.J. would crawl into his mother's car.
A movie worth giving a chance to. Indie, simple, human, realistic.
