Review of Herø (2001) by David O — 09 May 2015
Some time in the not too distance future, a man starts a relationship with his operating system, like say Siri or Windows or something like that.
Touching and original sidewards glance at romance in the modern age. Phoenix gives a warm performance as the schlub who falls for his ios and Johansson is pitch perfect as the object of his affection, she somehow manages to convey a great deal of warmth and charisma without ever being on screen. Great ensemble casting with the likes of Amy Adams, Chris Pratt, Aaron Eckhart and Olivia Wilde all appearing on screen.
A real original gem and my favourite of all of Spike Jonze's work. Reminiscent of Steve Martin's The Man with Two Brains, at times, but wholly original in of itself. A rare treat of a movie, and worth a few more viewings.
