Review of Henry Poole Is Here (2008) by Neil M — 26 May 2009
A bit quirky and a bit slow at certain parts; and yet I loved this one.
One of those movies that has a simple story plot to tell and uses the characters well to deliver it.
Luke Wilson played Henry Poole, a guy who just want to be left alone. Defeated in life where it seems pointless, he moved into a suburban, getting away from all his friends and family. There is a reason why he choose to be this way.....
Then one day, one of his nosy (but meant well) neighbour, Ms Esperanza accidentally discovered a "miracle" in a form of an image of Christ on Henry Poole's stuccoed wall. She is convinced that a miracle has happened and it is a message from Christ. Trying to get Henry to accept this miracle, Ms Esperanza even bring in her priest and some people to make a test on the "miracle".
Interesting look at how people will believed in anything; in the hope to hold on the last piece of hope. Ms Esperanza said you gotta have faith in order to see the "miracle". Henry questioned her why is it so important that he believes or accepts the "miracles"? Does it mean if he does, the lesser doubt Ms Esperanza will have on her faith?
