Review of Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001) by Rabeea'h A — 22 Mar 2008
The film builds its premise on Aristophanes' speech in Platos Symposium and the question of nonbinary gender. You'd think it provides more than enough material for a sublime film script. Nope, direction of the supposed surreality and mythological synchronicities at most moments were over the top.
and the 'rock operas' just got annoying after a while. Mayhaps, if it wasnt so emotionally monochromatic and had built a little more on the gnostic influence. I liked the few narrative bits and the flashbacks.
The song Origin of Love is the only reason I'm giving it the extra ratings. Though someday I think I may want to see the original musical.
