Review of Heckler (2007) by Louis A — 21 Oct 2013
I have never been moved to write a review on online. Ironically, the first time I have, it's about a film that explains exactly how shitty and easy it is to do just that. Well, I don't disagree too much there, but condemning the entire act of writing reviews of Art seems preeeeeetty damn bitter.
Art is made, people offer their opinions. I would never say "Jamie Kennedy should be shot", but I certainly do think it's valuable to be able to tell people "This entire movie is steeped in Jamie Kennedy's bitterness for his less successful endeavors, and I don't recommend it for an entertaining or enlightening viewing".
If you liked it, great, recommend it to your friends and write positive reviews. If you didn't, you can do just the opposite. The whole thing can be summed up in a fantastic quote from the movie, spoken by Craig Ferguson: "Do what you love, and what you're proud of, and you're fuckin' bulletproof[.
..]If you do what you absolutely believe to be right, then you're fuckin' bulletproof."Jamie Kennedy is clearly not doing what he loves, and is NOT proud of it to the point of begging every persons' opinion on The Son of the Mask.
It screams of insecurity in his own work, and that is why he is so massively sensitive to negative feedback. And that doesn't make for a compelling documentary. In fact, I'm going to indulge the "vicious critic" within myself here: This was a shitty movie, and I feel like I was tricked by Jamie Kennedy into watching it.
That's my opinion, and I don't care if you did or did not care.
