Review of Heavy Metal 2000 (2000) by Paul M — 28 Jan 2009
Much of the humor and fun of the original is gone and is replaced by a sub par feature that takes itself too seriously. This would be the flagship movie if they tried to make an adult version of Cartoon Network (i.
E., promoted as being for adults but watched almost exclusively by 12-14 year-olds). The lead voice actress was pretty bad; it sounded as if they simply used the first take on every one of her lines. Either that, or she is just extremely wooden.
Not really surprising though, Penthouse models rarely make good actresses. The story is the kind of thing you'd expect to find if some random 7th grader left his Mead notebook on your desk when classes switched.
This movie is like if back in 2000, the original Heavy Metal got raped by MTV.
