Review of Heaven's Gate (1980) by Krister S — 22 Apr 2009
A llandmark in filmaking, in the sense, exploiting peoples wealth for their own needs. Cimino was a gifted directors and of course with one hit with the box office, unfortunately the vultures see the possibilities of more of the same.
Giving a blank cheque to a young talent director has come to be a regular disaster in film making. Speilberg, Copolla, Jackson and others have had those moment, when a sense of greed gets in their hands and the aftermath is not a pretty sight.
In my experience, when a director has less money to work with, has to use hit talent and his imagionation more, thus makes extra ordinary films. Heavens Gate will be remembered as one of the most financial flops on record and it was the porducers error, less the misjudgement by mr Camino.
