Review of Heaven's Gate (1980) by William W — 21 Aug 2014
Never has a movie received such undeserved scorn. This story of immigrant settlers being slaughtered for their land touches on elements of the American experience rarely seen in American westerns, features superb performances from Kris Kristofferson, Christopher Walken, Jeff Bridges, and Isabelle Huppert, a haunting score by David Mansfield, and some of the most mesmerizing, innovative cinematography in Hollywood history, courtesy of Vilmos Zsigmond.
At 216 minutes, it's a bit of a slog, but the tension keeps sizzling.
