Review of Heavenly Creatures (1994) by Brad G — 06 Apr 2008
Kate Winslet as a sexually ambiguous teenage schoolgirl made this film worth watching, but the story was also well-told in terms of allowing you to feel sympathetic for, but not glorifying, these two who murdered a woman so brutally.
The fantasies were inaccessible, which is probably appropriate to the story, but given that they were a primary narrative catalyst, it made it difficult to stay engaged in the plot. Even so, Peter Jackson's considerable talents as a filmmaker were obvious even this early on.
