People usually don't know that before Peter Jackson was directing Middle Earth or resurrecting cinema's biggest and baddest ape, he directed this dark, potent knock-out about two teenage girls in 1950's New Zealand who forged an imaginary world together and literally resort to murder to save it.
Not only does Jackson show off his skill with fantasy elements, but his two new-comers (Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet) portray two outcast lovers with a passion and dedication of the most twisted but strangely beautiful nature.
