This is probably one of a very few movies that was potrayed about Vietnam war from a Vietnamese woman's perspective. La ley was an ordinary village girl until the war started. During the war, she had to leave her village with her mother to escape from the Viet Cong's violence.

In Saigon, she had to hustle with American soldiers to make her ends meet. After marrying an American GI, she moved to "wonderful" America not knowing another battle was awaiting for her..
