Review of Häxan (1922) by Simon B — 05 Jan 2009
Haxan is one of those films after 90 years is still creepy. At the time the effects seemed impossible (Flight of the witches scene) story was racey and the whole time it pushed every thinkable limit. Costumes were disturbing and director Christopher's portrayal of Satan is class act for a silent film.
Story may fall flat (defy bounds between documentary and horror) but the craftmanship is top-notch and just great. I love this film and the Public Domain file is up there. Horror fanatics this is were it started.
COOL IDEA:
When you download it off of Public Domain; I added my own soundtrack, tons of scenes fit for BLACK METAL MAJICK!
DVD STATUS:
Criterian is always nice but changing the soundtrack with Public Domain is worth the time and effort.
