Review of Häxan (1922) by Devin R — 25 Jan 2012
What an oddly fascinating 1922 silent film from Denmark about witchcraft framed as a "historical documentary". It's red-tinted images of diabolical mischief; including wicked rituals, torture devices and nuns driven mad, are still quite shocking, even today.
Haxan serves as a peculiar and striking example of just how advanced silent cinema really was in it's day.
