Review of Hatchet (2006) by Doctor S — 30 Oct 2009
Traverses gross-out comedy shtick and slasher flick territories with middling results as both elements lack refinement. The dialogue often sounded too written (and overly coarse) and the horror too predictable.
They do get the camp factor right, best demonstrated by 'Candyman' Tony Todd issuing a gravely amusing warning, and strive for 'Evil Dead'-type comic mayhem with gruesome old-school visual effects, but without that's film's knack for cleverness and style.
