Review of Harold and Maude (1971) by Mark L — 11 Apr 2009
If you haven't seen this, and I'm betting you haven't, I've got an uphill battle persuading you to considering the title, that poster >>> and the fact that it's about a morose teenager and a vivacious 79 year old woman that fall in love. But I wouldn't lie to you, you can trust me: it's genuinely hilarious (the humour feels much more modern than that in The Boat That Pissed Me Off), weird (in the best way), and is probably one of the most life-affirming films I have ever seen.
Also if you've ever enjoyed a Wes Anderson film, you will feel right at home here. This film was clearly a big influence on him.
And it has a lovely Cat Stevens soundtrack from the days when Cat wasn't calling for the death of Salman Rushdie.
