Review of Harold and Maude (1971) by Austin D — 04 May 2012
Hal Ashby made one of the best black comedies of all time. The opening credits immediately puts you into the mood of a dreary time as you see Harold's feet coldly walk down the stairs, but then you see that he moves to the record-player and plays Cat Steven's "Don't Be Shy" as he writes out a card and lights some candles , then you see him get up on a stool and hang himself.
It's just such a series of actions from Harold that defines this films groundbreaking stature all in the first scene of the movie. a timeless film. I know I still have the whole movie to talk about especially about the timeless love story of Harold and Maude.
