Review of Harold and Maude (1971) by Daniel C — 25 Dec 2013
Harold's morbid life is changed forever when he meets 79 year old Maude.
A weirdly, funny movie about a young man obsessed with suicide. Harold is brought up in a wealthy family but his mother is more absorbed in her self than looking at deeper solutions to Harold's problems. He meets Maude while attending funerals and together they form a friendship and his perspective begins to change as he witnesses her care free attitude towards life.
It's quirky in places and no doubt controversial considering its age but there's a certain charm that accompanies the weirdness as well. Music is provided by Cat Stevens and the film is actually shot quite well.
